about the book:

Sleepy Boy was the first picture book manuscript I wrote. I had been writing poems for years. I had gotten my masters in creative writing at the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars. But I had never imagined how a poem could become a story for a picture book.

When I wrote this text (as a poem), I was also working as an art director at Simon & Schuster where I was lucky enough to have Richard Jackson—legendary and brilliant editor—as a friend and colleague. He read my poem and said, Yes!, it could be a book. We found Stephanie Anderson to illustrate, she added her own narrative magic....and it all felt a bit like a miracle.
